The most recent, according to Deadline reports, are three great signings: the new darling of Hollywood, Peter Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), and the return of Connie Nielsen reprising her role from the original film as Lucilla.

The three are added to those previously announced, Paul Mescal (After sun, Lost Daughter, Normal People), in leading role, Barry Keoghan (The Batman, The Banshees of Inisherin) as an antagonist, and the Oscar-winning Denzel Washingtonmarking a new collaboration with Scott, after having placed himself under the filmmaker’s orders in the 2007 film, American Gangster.

Gladiator Scott’s (2000) Oscar-winning best film followed the story of Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe), a former general forced to be a common gladiator under the rule of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), a patricidal self-proclaimed emperor. from Rome.

Set years after the events of the original film, “the sequel’s story will center on Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and the nephew of Commodus from Phoenix.”

Mescal will play the adult version of Lucius (in the original film he was played by Spencer Treat Clark). Keoghan would play the Roman Emperor Geta, a fictional version of the real-life ruler.
