The plot picks up in 1949, two years after the turbulent events of Godzilla Minus Onecontinuing the story of the Shikishima family as they face a new calamity. The new installment shows Kōichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki) and his now wife, Noriko (Minami Hamabe), facing off against a returning Godzilla, this time with an even more menacing presence than before, both in Japan and New York City.
Along with them, other members making their comeback include Yuki Yamada, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando y Miou Tanaka, with the introduction of a new key character: Kanji Murakami (My Tanaka), a biologist with deep psychological scars from the war.

Godzilla Minus Zero will celebrate its world premiere on September 26 as the featured film of the Spotlight Gala at the 64th New York Film Festival (NYFF).
The sequel opens in Japan on November 3 — where it will also be the centerpiece of the Tokyo International Film Festival gala — followed by a wide-scale release in the United States and Latin America on November 6.
