Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexual assault after new trial in NY

The nine-year judicial saga of Harvey Weinstein in New York comes to a conclusion.

In a new trial, the disgraced former Hollywood mogul was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006. This follows the overturning of a previous conviction and two subsequent failed trials.

This ruling marks an important milestone that sparked the global #MeToo movement. Unless another appeal is successful, Weinstein, 74, will remain behind bars under his new conviction in New Yorkthe WSJ reported.

In an emotional statement about the impact of the crime, Haley said she “certainly didn't think I'd be back here six years after the crime.” [primera] conviction,” and expressed confidence that “this will be the last.” He described the “exhausting and unpleasant process” of testifying in court, which involved “humiliating interrogation,” as well as “experiencing online harassment and threats.” I have often felt like I was the one being judged,” Haley lamented. “This process has been the worst decision of my life, personally. I considered retiring many times.”

Haley has testified against Weinstein in two trials: first, she helped secure his conviction in 2020, which was overturned four years later. She took the stand again at the retrial in 2025, recounting once again how Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him in his SoHo apartment on July 10, 2006. Ultimately, a jury found Weinstein guilty of committing a first-degree criminal sexual act on Haley.

Now Weinstein will face a new sentence in California for having raped and sexually assaulted the Italian model and actress Evgeniya Chernyshova in a Los Angeles hotel in 2013. Judge Curtis Farber has indicated that it is up to the state of California to determine whether the sentence will be served concurrently or consecutively. A date has not yet been set.

Weinstein has faced various health problems in recent years, including chronic myeloid leukemia, diabetes and severe mobility difficulties. The sentence virtually guarantees that Weinstein will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
