With two episodes aired, HBO officially gives the green light to a second season of the series The Last of Usthis after getting extremely positive reviews, and breaking audience records, turning the series into an absolute hit for the television network.

The premiere obtained an audience of 4.7 million viewers in linear transmission (HBO) and on HBO Max in the United States, while the second chapter increased the audience by 22% with 5.7 million viewers in the country.

According to reports from Bloody Disgusting, the first season will adapt the first video game, while the second season will adapt the sequel.

The first season consists of 9 episodes. The third episode will be broadcast this Sunday, January 29, 2023. The season finale is set for Sunday, March 12, 2023, the same day that the Oscars will be broadcast on ABC in the US, and TNT in Latin America.

On the renewal, coshowrunner and executive producer, Neil Druckmanwho is the writer of the video game, comments in an official statement:

“I am humbled, honored and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our narrative of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast and crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations. Now we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with the second season!
