It will be a Valentine's red again.

Paramount Pictures made the release date official Heart Eyes 2 for him February 11, 2028in time for Valentine's Day.

The slasher rom-com sequel will repeat the release month of its predecessor, Heart Eyeswhich hit theaters on February 7, 2025, and became one of the horror hits of the year, as well as a different offering during the Love and Friendship Day weekend.

Josh Ruben returns as director. The script was co-written by Ruben y Darcy Fowler (Little Demon). Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy, co-writers of the first, were in charge of writing the story on which the script is based.

At the moment it is unknown if Olivia Holt (Cruel Summer) y Mason Gooding (Scream 5, Scream VI, Scream 7), will resume their leading roles.

Plot details and the start of production are being kept under wraps.

In Heart Eyes (2025), a masked maniac with glowing red eyes, nicknamed the Heart Eyes Killer, returns every Valentine's Day to slaughter unsuspecting couples. When a cynical advertising executive (Holt) and her hopeless romantic colleague (Gooding) become the next target, they decide to fight back and end the reign of terror, spending the most romantic night of the year running for their lives.

Prior to the release of the first film, Ruben shared how a sequel would be possible:

“I'll put it this way: You could replicate the structure of any great romantic comedy, from His Girl Friday until Defending Your Lifeand you could put Heart Eyes at the center of that story, and have him glow and attack. That's what's exciting about this: There's a chance that whoever the filmmaker was — I'd certainly be interested — could actually try to create or replicate that romantic comedy, or the feeling of Bridget Jones o Love Actually or whatever, but that these people feel really terrified by this psychopathic killer.”

The launch of Heart Eyes in theaters, it had a rare achievement for the slasher genre.

The film debuted at number 2 at the national box office with $8.3 million, and in its second weekend it increased its box office, accumulating another $10 million at the national box office.

This marked the third-smallest second-week drop in theaters for the horror genre, of all time, placing behind Terrifier 2 (+28%), and the iconic 1996 slasher, Scream (+42%).

Generally, slasher films suffer dramatic drops in their second weekends in theaters, with a few exceptions such as the three cases cited above.

It ended its run in theaters, grossing $33 million dollars at the global box office, and leaving a good taste in the audience's mouths, with a story that leaves the doors open for a sequel if the studios so decide.

Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group to co-produce and co-finance Heart Eyes 2with Paramount handling global distribution. Sony Pictures' Screen Gems distributed the first film.
