The hit HBO series, House of the Dragonhas been shooting its second season in the United Kingdom since last April 2023, at Warner Bros. Leavesden Studios.

Variety reports that the filming of the new season will be able to continue its march, despite the strike of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA)which entered into force as of this Friday, July 14, 2023, since it was not possible to reach a new agreement with the Film and Television Producers Alliance (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers; AMPTP), and contract negotiations between the two parties were finalized by the deadline of Wednesday, July 12.

The Actors’ strike is added to the strike of the Writers Union that entered into force on May 2, 2023.

The outlet confirmed that filming of the second season of House of the Dragon It will continue as planned, as its cast is primarily made up of UK actors, who work under contracts governed by the local union, Equity.. Filming will continue as members of the said union do not have legal permission to strike in solidarity with the US union, SAG-AFTRA.

Equity shared its actors’ strike guide with its 47,000 members on Thursday, shortly before SAG-AFTRA officially declared the strike, stating:

“Equity UK will support SAG-AFTRA and its members by all legal means.”

“An artist who joins the strike (or refuses to cross a picket line) in the UK will have no protection against being fired or sued for breach of contract by the producer or contractor. Similarly, if Equity encourages someone to join the strike or not cross a picket line, Equity will be acting illegally and therefore liable for damages or an injunction.”

Equity is based in London; It is the 12th largest union in the UK and represents actors, singers, dancers, designers, directors, stage managers and broadcasters amongst others.

House of the Dragon sets its argument in Westeros, 200 years prior to the events portrayed in GoT, prior to the fall of the Throne, exploring the beginning and end of the House of Targaryens. The first season dramatizes the backstory of the key characters of King Viserys’ reign and the civil war that resulted from his disregarded succession plans. This civil war is widely known as the Dance of the Dragons.

Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) is the heiress chosen to ascend the Iron Throne, but after the death of her father, King Viserys (Paddy Considine), sets in motion a plot that has been underway for years to put his half-brother Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) in the seat of power. Season 1 ended with battle lines drawn between the camp of the blacks (as supporters of Rhaenyra are known) and the greens (supporters of the Hightowers).

George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal are the co-creators, co-writers, and executive producers. House of the Dragon is based on the novel Fire & Blood from Martin. Condal remains as solo showrunner for the second season, the other showrunner, Miguel Sapochnik he will be involved solely as an executive producer going forward.

previously revealed that HOTD season 2 would be premiering in the summer of 2024, with a season made up of 8 episodes, two less than season one. This as “part of a long-term plan for the show, which includes HBO considering green-lighting a third season.”
