The life of the iconic Whitney Houston will hit the big screen ten years after his unfortunate death, with the biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody from the director Kasi Lemmons (Harriet, Eve’s Bayou, Black Nativity), and screenplay for the Oscar nominee, Anthony McCarten (Darkest Hour, The Two Popes, The Theory of Everything, Bohemian Rhapsody), con Sony Pictures as your global distributor.
The plot will take the audience to relive some of Houston’s most legendary and tragic moments, in front of and behind the public eye, with Naomi Ackie in a leading role. The actress has been part of productions such as the series The End of the F***ing World, Master of Noneand movies like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Scoreand the next one to be released Pussy Island.
Ackie is accompanied by Stanley Tucci (Feud, The Hunger Games, The Devil Wears Prada) as Clive Davis, Ashton Sanders (Moonlight) como Bobby Brown, Tamara Tunie (Law and Order: SVU) como Cissy Houston, Nafesa Williams (Black Lighting) as Robbyn Crawford, and Clarke Peters (Da 5 Bloods) as John Houston.

This 2022 marks ten years since her unfortunate death, on February 11, 2012, at the age of 48, having been found unconscious in the bathtub at a Beverly Hills hotel, where she was to be part of the Grammy Award. The official cause of death, according to an autopsy performed by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, was attributed to accidental drowning with factors such as “the effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use,” with inhaled cocaine use being rare. before his death, with other medications reported in toxicology such as Benadryl, Xanax, cannabis, and Flexiril. Sony Pictures will premiere I Wanna Dance With Somebody on December 21, 2022 in theaters in the United States. With a date to be confirmed in Mexico, where it is titled I Want to Dance with Someone: The Whitney Houston Story.
