IF marks a reunion between Krasinski and Carrell, co-stars of the popular sitcom The Office from NBC. This is the first collaboration between them since the series concluded in 2013.

Krasinski previously explained to Collider about how the idea for IF:

“'IF' is a movie I made for my kids because I don't think they'll be allowed to see 'A Quiet Place'; Emily [Blunt] He calls it PG-40, 'You can watch it when you're 40!' So I had to make a movie that they could watch, and I'm very, very excited about it. For me, it was just about what if we could tell a story about these time capsules? Imaginary friends are cute and all, but they're also time capsules of your hopes, dreams, and ambitions when you were your most fertile brain, and they never go away. “I think they tell us that we are adults instead of what would happen if you realized you never stopped being a child.”

Krasinski produces the feature film alongside Reynolds, Allyson Seeger and Andrew Form.

Paramount Pictures the film will be released on May 17, 2024.
