In news that no one saw coming, the horror thriller Longlegs (2024) from the writer and director Osgood Perkinshas given green light for a sequel.
According to THR reports, Longlegs 2 (working title) is currently in development, with Perkins' return as screenwriter, director and producerand that of Nicolas Cage as protagonist and producer.
The details are currently being kept secret, however, the Sources describe the project not as a sequel but as a film that is set in the universe of Longlegs.
The media also details that NEONwhose incredible marketing campaign helped Longlegs to become the highest-grossing independent film of the last decade, will not distribute the new film due to high production costsinstead, Paramount Pictures will take charge of the rights.
NEON's departure is curious, since Perkins' three most recent films āLonglegs, The Monkey y Keeperā were from this label.
Longlegs established Perkins as one of the most promising horror filmmakers, in addition to continuing to solidify the status of its protagonist, consecrating Maika Monroelike an authentic Scream Queen of contemporary horror cinema.
Monroe played Lee Harker, an FBI agent tasked with investigating a series of murder-suicides linked to the film's title serial killer, played by Cage. Since Mr. Legs, aka Dale Kobble, met a bloody end in Longlegswe want to assume that the next installment could be an origin story.
Following its theatrical release in August 2024, Longlegs It became the highest-grossing independent film of the year, as well as the highest-grossing R-rated independent film of that year, with a worldwide gross of $128 million, against a budget of just $10 million.
In addition to Perkins and Cage, other producers of the next installment are Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Chris Ferguson, and Dave Caplan.
Stay tuned for updates.
