What is the next mission for Maverick? Reach and exceed $760 million in Avatar ($760 million), the fourth highest-grossing film in the US, and which will be re-released in theaters this September, so that figure is expected to increase significantly. The sequel to Top Gun picks up its plot 30 years after the events of the original installment, with Pete “Maverick” Mitchell now working in the United States Navy’s prestigious Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor Program, which he assisted in Top Gun. In the sequel, Maverick is forced to navigate the increasingly complex world of drone warfare while mentoring a new generation of Navy pilots.
