The next installment of The Karate Kid of Sony Pictures He has already made a new signing. It's about the actress Ming-Na Wen in an unknown role at the moment according to reports from Variety.

Wen joins the protagonist Ben Wang (American Born Chinese), and the returns of Jackie Chan y Ralph Macchio as Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso, respectively, as well as the previously announced Joshua Jackson in “one of the main characters.”

He coming-of-age will continue the mythology of the original franchise.

Plot details are being kept under wraps. What is known is that the new installment will bring the story to the East Coast and will focus on a teenager from China (Wang) who finds strength and direction through martial arts and a tough but wise mentor (or two).

Wen is recognized for projects such as Mulan (1998)Agents of SHIELD, The Joy Luck Clubthe world series Star Wars, The Mandalorian y The Book of Boba Fett. We will soon see her in the movie Peachvillesharing credit with Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti and Simon Pegg.

Jonathan Entwistle (I’m Not Okay With This, The End of the F***ing World) directs the feature film written by Rob Lieber (Peter Rabbit, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day).

The project announced the return of Macchio and Chan last November. Macchio played Daniel LaRusso in the original film, The Karate Kid (1984), and the two sequels in 1986 and 1989. He also took it up again in the Netflix series, Cobra Kai, which will premiere its final season this year. Chan, for his part, gave life to Mr. Han in the 2010 reboot, The Karate Kid.

Karen Rosenfelt (Dopesick, Me Before Yousaga Twilight) produces the feature film.

Sony Pictures will release The Karate Kid December 13, 2024.
