Negi shiobutadon / Negiton «REBORN» – I've certainly mentioned it before, but one reason why there are so many young, technically excellent bands in Japan is the Japanese school system, which not only instructs and encourages children to learn instruments, but also to write songs. And so so-called music clubs at school are often the nucleus for bands that later become big. On the threshold of this are Negiton (their full name, by the way, means “bowl of spring onions and salted pork”) – the four young ladies finished school a few months ago, but released various singles while they were still at school and gained a large fan base. It's amazing the level of professionalism in their music (which is self-written and arranged) – evident in their great new indie rock single “REBORN”, which takes many melodic forks in its 6 minutes. Just Japanese.
Matt Berninger «Ask for Water» – Matt Berninger, singer with The National, has been in the business for considerably longer, but has now released a solo EP called “Type it up”. Vocally a little more varied than his main band, “Ask for Water” in particular is a hit.
