The fourth season of the anthology series, True Detectivetitled True Detective: Night Country, broke the record as the most watched season in the history of the anthology the HBO.

The new chapter, by the Mexican director Issa Lopez (Tigers Are  Not Afraid), and starring the double Oscar winner, Jodie Fosterand the boxer and actress Kali Reis (Catch the Fair One), it is averaging 12.7 million viewers on all platforms, since its premiere on January 14.

Night Country surpassed the audience of the first and acclaimed first season of True Detectivewhich was broadcast in 2014, as the most viewed. The first season averaged 11.9 million viewers across all platforms (via THR).

The vast majority of views of Night Country comes through streaming (HBO Maxalso known as the renewed Max).

  • Los The series' first four episodes averaged around 642,000 viewers in their initial broadcast on HBO.compared to around 2.6 million in the first season.
  • However, airing the first episode during the first night on Max more than doubles the series' linear audienceaccording to HBO, and it continues to pile up right now.
  • The first three seasons of True Detective they had more limited streaming availability through Max's precursors, the now-defunct streamers, HBO Now and HBO Go.
  • HBO shares that episode 5broadcast two days in advance, on Friday, February 9, instead of the Sunday that the Super Bowl was broadcast, currently has 5 million viewers on all platforms.
  • Traditionally, HBO measures viewing of its original productions for 90 days after a season premieres.

To have a little context, The White Lotus averaged 10.1 million viewers towards its final episode of the second season, while the final season of Succession averaged 8.7 million.

López serves as showrunner, creator, director of all episodes and executive producer, taking the baton as head writer and producer from series creator Nic Pizzolato.

In addition to Foster and Reis, the crime and drama anthology has in its cast: John Hawkes (Deadwood, Winter’s Bone), Christopher Eccleston (The Leftovers), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), Find Bennett (Domina), y Anna Lambe (Three Pines).

Alan Page Arriaga (Shining Girls, Fear the Walking Dead) is another of the scriptwriters and executive producers. This last work is shared with López, Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), Adele Romanski, Mark Ceryaky Foster. Matthew McConaughey y Woody Harrelson, stars of the first season, are credited as executive producers of the anthology, with Mari Jo Winkler. Anonymous Content is the studio behind the TV project.
