For your oatmeal porridge to be great, use the ingredients below and follow the instructions in the preparation method.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water

  • 1 cup rolled oats (use gluten-free oats if needed)

  • 1 cup milk (or plant-based milk if you prefer)

  • Pinch of salt

  • Sweetener of choice (sugar, honey, maple syrup, etc.)

  • Optional ingredients to add flavor: cinnamon, vanilla extract, chopped fruits, nuts, seeds, etc.

Directions

  • In a medium saucepan, add rolled oats, water and salt. 
    Mix well.
  • Place the pan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. 
    Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent the oats from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • Add milk to the pot and continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes, stirring constantly, until the porridge reaches the desired consistency. 
    If you prefer a creamier porridge, add more milk.
  • Remove pan from heat and add sweetener of choice as needed. 
    Mix well.
  • If desired, add extra ingredients to flavor the porridge, such as cinnamon, vanilla extract, chopped fruit, nuts or seeds. 
    Mix it up.
  • Let the porridge sit for a few minutes to thicken even more.
  • Transfer the porridge to individual bowls and add any toppings you like, such as fresh fruit, nuts, seeds or more cinnamon.
  • Serve the oatmeal hot and enjoy!
