The masterpiece Oldboy (2003) Park Chan-wook, will be adapted to the small screenthrough a collaboration between Park y Lionsgate Television. The series will be in English, according to reports from Variety.

Park, director and co-writer of the original South Korean film, is on board the television project as a producer, along with his producing partner, Syd Lim. The film, in turn, was loosely based on the Japanese manga of the same name.

Courtney Mock and Tara Joshi oversee on behalf of Lionsgate TV.

In a statement to the media, obtained by the source, Park said:

“Lionsgate Television shares my creative vision of bringing 'Oldboy' to the world of television. I look forward to working with a studio whose brand represents bold, original and risk-taking storytelling.”

The original film follows a man who is released from prison after 15 years, only to discover that he must find his captor in five days. The film is part of the trilogy Vengeance from Park, which includes Sympathy for Mr. Vengeancey Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.

Oldboy became the first South Korean film to win the Cannes Grand Prix in 2004. It is included on numerous lists of the best films of all time. The film was re-released last year for its 20th anniversary, and ranked in the top ten at the domestic box office in its first week, a rare feat for a re-release.

In addition to OldboyPark – one of the most acclaimed creative voices in world cinema – has directed The Handmaiden, Decision to Leave, Stokery Thirst. produced Snowpiercer, in its film version, and for television.
