Ingredients
8 sausages
8 hot dog buns (or crustless bread)
1 medium onion, cut into thin rings
1 medium bell pepper (red, green or yellow), cut into thin strips
8 slices of cheese (use one that melts well)
1 cup tomato sauce or ketchup
1 cup of mayonnaise
mustard to taste
Salt and pepper to taste
Olive oil or oil for sautéing
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a frying pan, add a little olive oil or oil and sauté the onion rings and bell pepper strips until soft.
Season with salt and pepper to taste. - Meanwhile, boil the sausages in water for a few minutes to partially cook them.
- Cut the hot dog buns in half lengthwise, but don’t separate the halves completely, leaving them together at the top.
- Spread a layer of mayonnaise and another of tomato sauce or ketchup on each bun.
- Place a sausage on each bun and add some of the onion and pepper sauce on top.
- Place a slice of cheese on top of each sausage.
- Close the buns, wrap them in foil and bake for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the buns are lightly browned.
- Remove from the oven and serve the oven hot dogs with mustard and other condiments to taste.
