This week we started shooting Scream 6 from location in Montreal, Canada, and one of its protagonists, the young actress Jenna Ortegashared details of what we can expect from this new installment of the slasher saga, where she will once again play Tara Carpenter, one of the survivors of the brutal attacks by Ghostface.

While making his way down the carpet at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards, Ortega stopped to talk to Entertainment Tonight, telling him that the next chapter in the slasher horror saga, Scream 6will be the most aggressive and violent so far (Variety):

Ghostface is much more intimidating. I just read part of the script, and he’s more and more gory. [sangriento]. I think this is probably the most violent version of Ghostface we’ve seen, I think it will be a lot of fun to film it.”

In addition to Ortega, the other confirmed cast members are the Mexican Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega, who reprise their roles as Sam Carpenter, and Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin, respectively. In addition, she will become the favorite of the Scream 4 audience, Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed (in Scream 5 Kirby was confirmed to be the only teenager to survive the Ghostface attacks in Woodsboro, in the 2011 installment).

On Panettiere’s return, and if she were to take on a role as a mentor to the new generation, Ortega tells ET:

“I won’t even try to broach the subject. She’s been one of my favorite characters in the franchise for a long time, so the fact that her character can come back and redeem herself is really exciting.”

And what do we know about the legacy cast? Unfortunately it is confirmed that Neve Campbell will not returnwhile Courteney Cox will be reprising his role as Gale Weathers, Ortega herself comments on Cox in the interview with ET (we share the video below).

At the moment there are no details about the plot of Scream 6, nevertheless, the studios commented that the film:

“Continues with the four survivors of the murders of Ghostface as they leave Woodsboro behind and begin a new chapter.”

The premise makes it clear that the sequel will focus on the group of young actors featured in Scream 5perhaps leaving the legacy cast behind and moving the saga forward by focusing on a new generation.

Los co-directors of Scream (2022), Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back in Scream 6. Same case of screenwriters James Vanderbilt y Guy Busick.

Kevin Williamsonscreenwriter of the original saga, along with Chad Villella of Radio Silence, return as executive producers alongside Peter Oillataguerre, and Spyglass’s Gary Barber, and Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, and Marianne Maddalena. Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and Project X’s William Sherak are producing.

The five installments of the slasher saga have so far collected more than $744 million dollars in the global box office; Scream 5 racked up $140 million at the global box office.

The studies established the theatrical release date Scream 6 for March 31, 2023.
