Last March, great news was released: the film about the original BBC series, Peaky Blinders, it is a fact. It will feature the return of Steven Knightcreator of the acclaimed original series, and the Oscar-winning Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) reprising the leading role as Tommy Shelby.

With filming planned to kick off next September, Knight spoke to NME to whom he commented on the film's progress:

It will happen. It will happen this September. I'm just doing the final polishing, which will continue until the day before we start shooting. But we are there. We have everything organized, we have all the commitments we need and we are ready to start. I think the movie will be a step forward again and it will be great for Peaky fans to be able to gather in one place and watch it. The budget will be larger, but also because we know that we are finishing this chapter, we are all going to try to do it the best we can. Cillian [Murphy] is really willing to do it. So I can't wait for it to start shooting.”

On Cillian as an Oscar winner:

“Isn't it amazing? I'm very happy for him because he deserves it. After every award he won, he would text and say, 'I really can't wait to do Peaky.' Confirming that none of this was going to change what we do next.”

And finally, on what the audience can expect from the film:

“I hope you are shocked, delighted, and horrified, and then delighted again, and then shocked again!”

The Serie Peaky Blinders tells the story of Tommy Shelby (Murphy), and his family's rise to prominence and power, set against the backdrop of post-World War I working class Birmingham.

Murphy led the cast of the crime drama series, which ran for six seasons between 2013 and 2022. The first season (2013) aired on BBC, gaining international popularity after being acquired by Netflix in the fall of 2014, for its distribution outside the United Kingdom.
