Marvel fans are not very happy with the statements recently made by the director Taika Waititi.
The director of the last two installments Thor, Thor: Ragnarok (2017) y Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), admitted to having had no interest in joining the MCU before signing for Ragnarokand having said yes for economic reasons, since he was “poor” and needed to feed his two children.
During his participation in the Smartless podcast, Waititi revealed:
“Did you know? I had no interest in making one of those movies. It wasn't in my plan for my career as an author. But I was poor and had just had a second child., and I thought, 'You know what? This would be a great opportunity to feed these children.'”
Continuous: “And 'Thor,' let's face it, was probably the least popular franchise. I never read 'Thor' comics as a kid. That was the comic I would pick up and say 'Ugh'. And then I did some research on it and read a 'Thor' comic or 18 pages, or however long they were.”
Waititi added that he took Marvel reaching out to him as a sign that the franchise didn't know where to go:
“I think they had no place left to go with that. I thought, 'Well, I've been called, this is really the bottom of the barrel.'”
Waititi directed RagnarokWhile for Love and Thunder In addition to directing, he participated as one of the scriptwriters. The latter did not have a good review from specialists, nor from MCU fans. It is considered one of the worst installments of the Marvel cinematic universe.
In a previous interview, the filmmaker shared that he will not be back for Thor 5since he wants to focus on other projects for which he has been signed, such is the case of the soon to be released, Next Goal Wins from Sarchlight Pictures, the adaptation of the acclaimed anime, Akirathe adaptation of the bestseller Klara and the Sunand a film project Star Wars.
“So that's six, seven years. I imagine another Thor would happen sooner than that. But I love Marvel, I love working with them. I love Chris [Hemsworth]. We are in an open relationship and it's like they want to see other people, I'm glad for that. I would still go back [trabajar] with them one day.”
In the same interview, Waititi revealed that Hemsworth is in talks with Marvel Studios for the next installment Thor.
