With two episodes aired to date, the series The Last of Us has conquered the fan or non-fan audience of the popular video game from which its story is adapted. The general consensus talks about a faithful adaptation to its source material, at the same time that between the creator Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), y Neil Druckmanwriter of the original game, as one of the executive producers, are adding context to the story of the series including details that do not appear in the video game, but add to what we see portrayed on screen.
Mazin and Druckmann are managing to make a wonderful leap from the video game to television, and the fandom should have no worries, as it is evident that there is a care with the material that is worked seriously.
One of the things that Mazin and Druckmann are most excited about is being able to include a character that does not appear in the video games: we are talking about Ellie’s mother (played in the series by Bella Ramseyand who in the games we know with the voice of Ashley Johnson). This is what they tell Variety:
Druckmann: “The one who appears very late in the season is Ellie’s mom. He had written a short story after we had already shipped the game. It was supposed to be an animated short, but it fell apart and never came to be. There was a point where we almost made it as DLC, but it fell apart. In our conversations, I mentioned it to Craig and he was immediately enthused, or as he would say, “activated.” We brought it to life in the most beautiful and poetic way, which is Ashley Johnson playing Ellie’s mother and she was the original actress of Ellie..”
Pedro Pascal y Ramsey they star in the story as Joel and Ellie, respectively. The The first season consists of 9 episodes with a weekly premiere on Sundays.
The video game carries its story to a post-apocalyptic setting, 20 years after a pandemic radically changed civilizationinfected humans run wild and survivors kill each other for food, weapons or whatever:
“Focusing on the relationship between Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenager who may be the key to a cure for the deadly pandemic. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle the 14-year-old girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts out as a small job soon becomes a brutal and harrowing journey as they traverse the United States and depend on each other for survival.
The series covers the events of the original game written by Druckmannwith the possibility of additional content based on the game’s sequel, The Last of Us Part IIwhich was released on May 29, 2020. Previously, Druckmann explained the process of adapting the material to the small screen, the similarities and the deviations from it.
