Sony Pictures has announced the release date for the next installment of the horror franchise Insidious from the production company Blumhouse.

The sequel without an official title at the moment, has set its theatrical release for August 29, 2025. No further details were released about the project, which will mark the sixth in the Sony and Blumhouse saga (via Deadline).

The media clarifies that this feature film is not about the spinoff Thread: An Insidious Tale from director Jeremy Slater, who in June 2023 announced that he had signed Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani in leading roles. This film does not have a release date yet.

The franchise Insidious created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, it started in 2010 with the first installment directed by Wan. The sequels were later released Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013), Insidious: Chapter 2 (2015), Insidious: The Last Key (2018), and more recently, Insidious: The Red Door (2023).

The sixth Insidious comes after the great success achieved by The Red Doorwhich became the highest-grossing installment of the saga, and the highest-grossing horror film of 2023 with more than $189 million in the global box office.

The plot of Insidious revolves around supernatural entities that torment the living, in the case of the first two films, scripted by Whannell and directed by Wan, the tormented beings are the Lambert family (Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne). The entities come from The Further, a dangerous world inhabited by these spirits, which connects with our world through space and time. The Further has many “red doors” through which demonic entities arrive in our dimension.

The saga has collected more than $730 million at the global box office with its five films.
