Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárrituis already preparing his next film project, his first in English since the Oscar-winning The Revenant (2015).

Iñárritu will collaborate with Warner Bros. y Legendary Entertainment in this film that is already in negotiations with the mega star Tom Cruise to play the lead role (via Deadline).

Plot details are being kept under wraps for now. What is confirmed is that it is an original story written by Iñárritu, who will also produce and direct. He co-wrote the script with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris y Nicolas Giacobonehis co-writers of Birdman.

In recent weeks, Cruise signed a major collaboration deal with Warner Bros. This will mark the first project under the agreement. Cruise will also be another of the producers along with Iñárritu and Legendary.

Deadline reveals that Iñárritu has already met with “a select few actors in recent weeks, with Cruise being one of the first,” Cruise “rushed to meet with Iñárritu once he learned that the director was moving forward with his next big studio film. As soon as the meeting was over, Cruise joined in.”

After directing the Oscar-winning, The Revenant (2015), for which Iñárritu won his second Oscar for best director in a row (the previous year he won it for Birdman), the filmmaker took things slow and turned his attention to creating his passion project Bardo (2022) which had an exclusive release on Netflix.

It will be very interesting to see the result of a collaboration of the magnitude of Iñárritu and Cruise.

We stay up to date with the news.
