The Emmy-nominated survival drama, Yellowjacketsof Showtime It is currently broadcasting a new episode of the second season weekly, although prior to its premiere last March 2023, the Showtime network renewed it for a third season.

The creatives and writers were about to brainstorm ideas in the writers’ room when it came into effect. The United States Writers Strikeof the Writers Guild of America (WGA), with which said union demands improvements for all its members from chains and studios (more on that in a moment).

But Ashley Lyle, co-creator of the show with Bart Nickersonshared his followers in Twitter that exciting and fun things await us for the third season, which they were able to immerse themselves in for exactly one day, leading up to the strike:

Well, we had exactly one day in the #YellowJackets S3 writers room. It was amazing, creatively invigorating and a lot of fun, and I’m so excited to get back to it as soon as the #WGA gets a fair deal.”

What is happening with the Writers Guild? For weeks they have tried to reach an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, without success. Last Monday night, May 1, 2023, the deadline for negotiations between both parties was fulfilled, and after failing to reach an agreement that satisfied those involved, the members of the Writers Union, by unanimous vote, decided to go to strike and stop work until they achieve fair treatment and payments that better reflect the importance of their work in the film and television industry.

  • According to the rules, WGA members working outside the United States must also stop work on any project they are working on.
  • This is the first WGA strike in 15 years.

The cessation of their work impacts various sectors of the entertainment industry, series and films that were being developed, new seasons with scripts underway, US productions developing abroad that could be affected, scriptwriters’ room in progress must stop work etc

Yellowjackets is as much a survival epic, as a psychological horror story, and a coming-of-age dramawhich portrays the consequences a group of former soccer players deal with, 25 years after surviving a chilling incident in their teens: a plane crash that lands deep in the remote wilderness of the northern United States.

The second season begins two months after Shauna ignored Jackie with dire consequences. Tensions have risen within the team as winter conditions intensify, leaving the girls making impossible decisions to survive.

In their adolescent versions they are interpreted in the same order by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmine Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, and Samantha Hanratty.

The season one finale, airing in January 2022, opened the doors for more surviving members of the team. Yellowjackets in the current history of the show, which is why new additions to the cast were signed for the second season, such as Lauren Ambrose as the adult version of Van (played in its young version by Liv Hewson), and Simone Kessell as the adult version of Lottie Matthews (played by Courtney Eaton in her teenage version) in the present day timeline of season 2.
