Artificial intelligence is the protagonist of the horror project Afraidpreviously titled They Listenof Sony Pictures y Blumhouse Productions.

After revealing the official trailer, Sony Pictures presents the first poster focused on AIA, the digital assistant that promises to unleash chaos in the film. In addition, to help the audience get familiar with AIA, the studio set up a website for her here.

John Cho (Searching) y Katherine Waterston (Babylon, Alien: Covenant) co-star in the horror project, alongside Luke Maxwell (Shrinking) playing the daughter of Cho and Waterston. They are joined by Riki Lindhome (Wednesday, Knives Out), David Dastmalchian (Late Nate with the Devil), Greg Hill (Civil War), Keith Carradine (The Power of the Dog), Havana Rose Liu (No Exit), Wyatt Lindner (Titans), y I am Youcef.

In the film:

“Curtis (Cho) and his family are selected to test a revolutionary new home device: a digital family assistant called AIA. Taking the smart home to the next level, once the unit and all its sensors and cameras are installed in your home, AIA seems capable of doing it all. It learns your family’s behaviors and begins to anticipate their needs. And it can make sure that nothing (or no one) gets in your family’s way.”

Afraid It is written and directed by Chris Weitz (American Pie, About a Boy). The filming of the film took place in Los Angeles, CA.

  • This marks the latest joint project between Sony and Blumhouse, following the releases of the acclaimed Whiplash, the reboot Fantasy Island, the sequel The Craft: Legacy, the latest installment of the saga Insidious, Insidious: Fear the Darky Night Swimreleased this year.
  • It marks the eleventh collaboration between Cho and Weitz; after small roles in a few films and TV series, the actor gained notoriety as “the MILF boy” in the film American Piethe wheat.

Other projects directed by Weitz include The Golden Compass, Twilight: New Moon, A Better Life, y Operation Finale.

Jason Blum, Chris Weitz, and Andrew Milano serve as producers on the feature film, with Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings, and Paul Davis serving as executive producers.

Sony Pictures will release Afraid in the cinemas the August 30, 2024.
