The acclaimed Emmy-winning series, Ted Lassoco-created by Jason Sudeikis y Bill Lawrenceaired the finale of its third season – and apparently the end of the series – in May 2023 on Apple TV+, and although there was much talk about there not being another season, Lawrence believes that anything is possible.

In an interview with Collider, Lawrence explained that it all depends on Sudeikis:

“Sometimes there is a collective thought process, even without speaking to each other, and all the actors, actresses, scriptwriters and producers of that series loved the experience. As fans, we would all kill if it were repeated, but we would all say the same thing, which is: whatever Jason feels like doing and whatever his decision is, we are all for it..”

Sudeikis is not only the co-creator of Ted Lassobut its main screenwriter, executive producer and star.

While Lawrence is open to returning as soon as Sudeikis gives the green light, he also acknowledges the personal sacrifices Sudeikis has to make for the series, referring to the two children he shares with ex Olivia Wilde:

“Not only is he the star, he’s the head writer and he’s also the guy whose life has to be completely overhauled and moved to a foreign country with young children. It’s a big deal. So as a fan, if someone says, ‘Oh, it’s going to happen again,’ I’m going to go nuts. As a partner, I’m willing to do whatever he wants to do.”

The series follows Ted Lasso, a college football coach in the United States, who moves to England to coach a Premier League soccer team, AFC Richmond, a sport he has no knowledge of. The club is fighting to avoid relegation to the second division.

Ted Lasso is based on a character Sudeikis played in a series of NB Sports Premier League promos. Sudeikis developed the series with Joe Kelly and Lawrence; Brett Goldstein is one of the series' writers and a co-producer.

Initially, it was thought that Ted Lasso was set to run for three seasons, but its success on Apple TV+ left fans wondering if there could be more. Lawrence has also previously said she doesn't “think anything is set in stone” regarding potential spinoffs.

The first season premiered on Apple TV+ in August 2020.
