Trama The Perfect Couple

A rich family, apparently perfect, is preparing to celebrate the wedding of their son Benji with Amelia Sacks, a humble girl not welcomed by her future mother-in-law, a successful writer, but everything crumbles when, suddenly, a body is found on the beachcasting a dark shadow over what appeared to be a classic fairy tale with a happy ending.

Between unspeakable secrets, hidden tensions and dangerous relationships, The Perfect Couple explores how far people will go to protect their image.

The Perfect Couple: un giallo in stile Agatha Christie

Set on the luxurious coasts of Nantucket, The Perfect Couple series revolves around the wedding of the year: the one between Benji Winbury (Billy Howle)scion of one of the most powerful families in the city, and Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson)a young zoologist. The idyll is shattered when the bridesmaid Merritt (Meghann Fahy) she is found dead on a beach. From that moment, the fairytale atmosphere turns into a nightmare of secrets and suspicions, in perfect style whodunit. Who did it? Who killed Merritt and why?

The six episodes revolve around the interrogations of a couple of policemen from the local station, who, astonished and often in disbelief, struggle to orient themselves among the Winburys' complex family dynamics and opulent lifestyle. Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman)famous writer and matriarch of the family, is the pivot of this decadent microcosm, full of luxuries, jealousies and betrayals. Her husband joins her Day (Liev Schreiber)in a game of appearances and lies that involves each member of the family and their eccentric guests.

While the detectives, Nikki and Dan, try to untangle the complex tangle of relationships, betrayals and lies, The Perfect Couple it increasingly takes on the contours of a classic detective novel, in which everyone is a suspect and no one seems to be completely innocent.

The viewer finds himself exploring the intricate secrets of a seemingly perfect family, but one that hides dark sins. From Greer, jealous and manipulative, to Benji and Amelia, everyone has something to hide, and the clues accumulate episode after episode, revealing an increasingly murky and ambiguous picture.

Even if you immediately have the perception of who could have killed Merritt, nothing is as it seems, fortunately I would say.

The charm of high society under the lens of disenchantment

One of the most fascinating elements of the series is the setting among the luxuries and hypocrisies of a privileged elite. The point of view of the two policemen, Nikki and Dan, gives a note of irony and disbelief: the detectives, in fact, continually find themselves facing a world that seems light years away from everyday reality, made up of immense privileges, blatant lies and absurd things that seem to reflect our point of view.

This contrast between the simple life of the investigators and the opulent and empty life of the Winburys creates an at times grotesque tone, which amuses and at the same time makes one reflect until reaching an unexpected ending.

A curious but not memorable ending

The ending of The Perfect Couple is curious: a cathartic twist that, while bizarre, offers a certain sense of optimism, a rare aspect in contemporary thrillers. However, the epilogue seems almost casual, with a resolution that leaves the viewer with a mixture of surprise and perplexity.

Despite everything, the series remains content to watch without too many expectations, especially for those who love mysteries and intricate family dynamics.

The success of The Perfect Couple theme song

One of the most engaging aspects is the explosive success of his theme song, which has become a real hit guilty pleasure su TikTok. Il brano “Criminals”which accompanies the opening credits, was transformed into a viral hit thanks to a simple and captivating choreography, in “macarena” style. Ballet has conquered everyone: from social creators to the little ones.

Although the series did not impress critics with its plot, overall it still managed to carve out a space for itself among the most popular trends of the moment, thanks to the spread of the unbridled “Criminals challenge” on TikTok. A matter of taste anyway, definitely.
