First look at Sydney Sweeney as boxer Christy Martin

Sydney Sweeney is momentarily leaving aside her glamorous roles to play a role very different from the one the audience is accustomed to. biopic that will address the life of boxer Christy Martin.

The project, still without an official title, is being directed by David Michod (The King, The Rover). Filming got underway in recent weeks.

From the filming set the first glimpses of Sweeney in full characterization emerge, letting us see his transformation wearing a very nineties mullet and increasing his muscle to play Christy Martin.

Martin is a former professional boxer who competed between 1989 and 2012 and was world champion in the super welterweight class in 2009. In 2010, she also survived an assassination attempt by her husband, James Martin. He stabbed Christy several times and shot her at her Florida home, but she survived. In 2012, James was convicted of attempted second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

In 2020, Martin was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in the organization's first ballot to include women.
