The cast of the remake that 20th Century Studios is preparing The Hand That Rocks the Cradlebetter known in our market as The hand that rocks the cradlehas just made a new signing.
According to THR reports, Martin Starr (Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, There’s Something in the Barn) reached an agreement with the studio to be part of the cast, joining Maika Monroe (Longlegs, It Follows) y Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane, Final Destination 3) in co-starring roles. Raul Castillo (Smile 2, Class of ’09) is another member of the cast.
The new version will be directed by the Mexican filmmaker Michelle Garza Cerverawho co-wrote and directed the acclaimed horror film Huesera (2022) nominated for 17 Ariel Awards, and Barbarian Mexico II (2017). The script was written by Micah Bloomberg (Homecoming, Sanctuary).
He Filming by Garza Cervera will begin this December in Los Angeles, CA.
The remake adapts the 1992 psychological thriller originally distributed by Buena Vista Pictures and directed by Curtis Hanson from a script by Amanda Silver.
The original film follows Rebecca De Mornay as “a twisted widow who, distraught at having lost her own baby, enters a family as a nanny, with the ultimate goal of staying with the children and husband.” Annabella Sciorra played the mother.
In the new version, Monroe will take on the role of the nanny, while Winstead will play the mother. Castillo will play the husband, and the newly announced Starr will be the family neighbor to whom Winstead's character turns for help.
The feature film will be produced by Ted Field of Radar Pictures, and Michael Schaefer and Mike Larocca of Department M.
