Ingredients
3½–4 cups (440–500g) all-purpose or bread flour (plus extra for dusting)
1½ tsp (5g) active dry yeast
1¼ cups (300ml) warm water (110°F/43°C)
2 tbsp (30ml) olive oil (plus extra for greasing)
1 tsp (5g) granulated sugar
1½ tsp (9g) salt
Directions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 3½ cups (440g) of flour and the salt.
- Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8–10 minutes, adding remaining flour as needed, until the dough is smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into two equal portions. Roll each into a ball, cover, and let rest for 10 minutes before stretching into pizza crusts.
