It's that time again – the Leipzig Jazz Days are entering another round. And this year there are again some artists who, apart from classic jazz, are exploring electronic sounds or other exciting cross-connections. Here are our five highlights – there are also guest lists up for grabs.

The 49th Leipzig Jazz Days will take place from October 11th to 18th, 2025. Again with a very broad view of what contemporary jazz currently has to offer internationally. Over 25 events took place in eleven Leipzig locations. For the first time this year there is also an experimental laboratory in the KUB gallery. On three dates, a scope will be created in which innovation, risk and unfinished work can be explored.

The motto of this year’s Jazz Days is “Mapping Music”. This is accompanied by, among other things, the question: “How can one abstract, notate and visualize music on the one hand? How can others
“But music itself also becomes a projection surface for the world we experience, which allows us to experience things sensually in a different way and thus understand them?”

This year we have again filtered out five highlights from the entire program. Here they are with a few audio recordings and guest list places. We're a little late, so hurry up with your emails 😉

12.10.2025, 20:00 Uhr || From the Tower/Joussein/Zöschg, || Gallery KUB

How do acoustic impressions come together to create a spacious atmosphere? Together, Delphine Joussein, Laura Zöschg and Damian Dalla Torre embark on an acoustic border walk with experimental soundscapes between ambient and noise in the KUB gallery in order to provide an answer to this question. The starting point for the meditation will be the idea of a mountain walk – but above all it will be about testing spatial dimensions. What is closeness, what is distance? What expansive power do soundscapes develop in space?

In cooperation with the South Tyrol Jazz Festival, there will now be a concert by these three extraordinary musicians for the first time in this constellation. In recent years, Delphine Joussein has significantly pushed the acoustic limits of her instrument – the flute – in her own compositions and has thus received the highest level of critical recognition. Laura Zöschg is a trained vocalist and has been causing a stir with her experimental vocal compositions for several years. And Damian Dalla Torre has been around since his 2024 release at the latest The Guardian “I Can Feel My Dreams”, which was named “Best Contemporary Album”, is no longer an insider tip; especially not in Leipzig – if you want to find out more, you can read our interview with him here, or zoom in on our last episode of our New In Radio here, in which we take a closer look at his latest release “Lüften”.

>> Good Note: We are giving away 2×2 guest list spots for this concert. Please send us an email to dance @ gladfroh.de with the artist name by October 10th, 11:00 a.m. The winners will receive an email.

13.10.2025, 10:30 p.m || Sheen Trio || New Theater Leipzig

The Iranian musician Shabnam Parvaresh and her Sheen Trio play a rocking, jazzy and driving, sometimes experimental sound on guitar, bass clarinet and drums. The guitar riffs sometimes sound like post-hardcore à la Refused or Shellac.

The bass clarinet of the Iranian composer and namesake of the Sheen Trio (Sheen is the sixth letter of the Persian alphabet and also the first letter of her first name) fits perfectly between the razor-sharp guitar riffs and the drums. Sometimes driving forward, sometimes destructively experimental. Certainly not easy fare, but very exciting. Especially since Parvaresh's cultural and musical background is also reflected in the music of the Sheen Trio. She began her career in the Tehran Symphony Orchestra and came to Germany in 2014 to study jazz.

October 15, 2025, 10:00 p.m. || Arthur Kohlhaas Feedback Loop / Ganna feat. Laura Robles (double concert) || Werk2

Feedbacks and loops – that doesn’t sound like playful jazz music, but rather suggests associations with other genres. And that's why the name of the Leipzig project Arthur Kohlhaas Feedback Loop actually says it all. The musicians, all of whom are jazz-trained, want to push the boundaries. Their first EP was created in the studio and not as a live project. And this is where takes and instrument tracks were “stacked up”. Drums, bass, electric piano and synths. Their music is sometimes less reminiscent of jazz than of productions from the UK label Warp or Kamaal Williams. Live is certainly an exciting and gripping affair, especially since the music is transported back from the studio to the live context.

The music from Berliner Ganna provides a nice contrast this evening – announced as a “sophisticated pop sound from the celebrated vocalist”. And you can definitely leave it like that. The electronically produced music harmonizes wonderfully with the vocal loops and the polyphony in the vocals. Slight Björk associations are awakened. This evening Ganna will perform at the Cajón with a special guest.

Oct 17, 2025, 11:59 p.m. || Arnold/Martin/Rome || Moritzbastei upper cellar

Three names that could, and indeed should, mean something to people from Leipzig who are interested in jazz! Hans Arnold is a drummer, pianist and piano maker. He is particularly interested in the sounds of the electric piano and percussive sound elements and has already given us a great EP and a solo LP on the Leipzig label Telescope. Percussive sounds can also come from pieces of wood (fun fact: he also plays in a combo called Holzig). Arnold's sound moves between ambient, jazz, pop and more experimental sound forms.

Markus Rom's best-known project is probably Oh No Noh. A man, his guitar and various robots, some of them self-built, that control all kinds of percussive elements live. Together with Philipp Martin (member of Glotze), Markus also runs the minimal music and ambient project Die Andacht. The two musicians actually limit themselves to bass and guitar. They show what is possible in such a reduced set-up.

On this special evening, the three musicians and friends will perform pieces by Hans Arnold, Oh No Noh and Die Andacht together. A rare opportunity to eavesdrop on the three of them.

October 18, 2025, 11:00 p.m. || Salomea, DJ Allynx || Work2

Rebekka Salomea makes pop that can't be nailed down. With her band she switches effortlessly between R'n'B, jazz, hip-hop and electronic influences – creating sounds that are just as popular in clubs as they are at jazz festivals. Live, soft autotune vocals meet shimmering beats, sample games and again and again: transverse flute. An instrument with which Salomea's musical journey began. Today she is a singer, producer and creative thought leader who shares intimate insights into her creative process on Instagram. Her current album “Good Life” tells personal stories with archive material and 90s vibes – danceable, dreamy and unconventional. She can be seen live with her band in Leipzig – followed by a DJ set by DJ Allynx.
