The legendary Oscar and BAFTA winning actor, Sir Gary Oldmanconfesses what his dream is.
Oldman, a passionate fan of the English club, Manchester Unitedstates that he would rather see United return to their best level than win another Oscar in his career.
The performer has been nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars three times, winning the golden statuette in 2018 for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the biopic Darkest Hour by Joe Wright, and is considered one of the best actors of his generation, having made his film debut in 1982.
While Oldman grew up supporting Millwall, his admiration for the United legend, George Bestled him to adopt the Red Devils as his team. Oldman has openly expressed his devotion to the Mancunian club at Old Trafford.
His connection with the club is so deep that, in September 2024, he photographed the campaign for the United x Adidas clothing line inspired by the legend George Best. The line celebrates Man United's victory in the European Cup – today known as the Champions League – in the 1967/68 season, and includes Best's signature and his mythical number “7”. Oldman photographed the collection with a vintage Chamonix camera.
In recent days, the actor held a quick question and answer session with the former English footballer Peter Crouch on That Peter Crouch Podcast, and When asked if he would choose another Oscar or the Manchester United treble, he opted for the latter. (video available at the end of the note).
For those who are not fans of United or football, we tell you that in the last decade, United, the biggest club in the Premier League, has been a shadow of its former self under the management of the iconic Sir Alex Ferguson. The coach led the club for 27 years and retired in 2013.
United achieved a historic treble in the 1998/99 campaign, lifting the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles in ten daysbecoming the first English team to do so. The feat was led by Sir Alex.
And that feat is what Oldman is referring to.

These were the quick questions related to United and cinema that Crouch asked him:
Would you rather win another Oscar or for United to win the treble again?
“Oh, how unfair. No, I'd love to see United win the treble again. Oh yeah!”.
Crouch: Who is more intimidating, Alex Ferguson or Francis Ford Coppola?
Oldman: Alex Ferguson
Crouch: What's more dramatic, a last-minute United win or an unexpected plot twist?
Oldman: United's last-minute victory.
Crouch: Discourses are given better, Jackson Lamb –his character in the series Slow Horses– A Fergie?
Oldman: Fergie.
Crouch: The Premier League or Hollywood? Which is more soap opera?
