Amanda Seyfried plays an indomitable religious leader in The Testament of Ann Leethe musical epic from the co-writer and director Here Fastvold.
Searchlight Pictures published the teaser trailer for the religious biographical drama, titled in our region as Anne Lee's testimonyin which Seyfried plays Ann Lee, the founder of the devotional sect known as the Shakers, a utopian society that worships through song and dance.
Based on real events, the film tells the story of this indomitable leader, defender of gender and social equality, who considered herself the female incarnation of Christ. The film includes more than a dozen original Shaker hymns transformed into vibrant choreography by Celia Rowlson-Hall (Vox Lux) and music by Oscar-winning composer Daniel Blumberg (The Brutalist).
Fastvold wrote the script with her husband Brady Corbet. The duo wrote the script and produced the Oscar-winning, The Brutalistdirected by Corbet.
Prior to this project, Fastvold directed Seyfried in the miniseries The Crowded Room from Apple TV, and Long Bright River from HBO Max. Fastvold also directed The World to Come (2020) y The Sleepwalker (2014).
Seyfried knows a thing or two about musical projects, having starred in Oh mama! (2008) y Les Miserables (2012).
The main cast includes Seyfried, Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit), Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), Tim Blake Nelson (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Christopher Abbott (Poor Things), y Stacy Martin (The Brutalist).
The producers are Mona Fastvold, Brady Corbet, Andrew Morrison, Joshua Horsfield, Viktória Petrányi, Gregory Jankilevitsch, Klaudia Smieja-Rostworowska, Lillian LaSalle, and Mark Lampert.
The film celebrated its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where it received a 15 and a half minute ovation. Much of the critics predict that Seyfried could receive her second Oscar nomination.
20th Century Studios releases Anne Lee's testimony in theaters December 25. It will be presented in 70mm.
