In addition to renewing House of the Dragon for a fourth season, HBO too renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdomsthe new prequel series Game of Thrones, for a second seasonahead of the premiere of the first season on January 18, 2026.
The second season of the half-hour series, will premiere in 2027.
The short format of the episodes is intended to reflect the source material on which the series is based.
Meanwhile, House of the Dragon It will premiere its third season in the summer of 2026, and its fourth season in 2028.
With these renewals confirmed, we are ensuring visits to Westeros every year from 2026 to 2028.
The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, for its title in our region, adapts the short novel saga Tales of Dunk and Egg of George R. R. Martinwhich currently consists of The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword y The Mystery Knight.
The first seasonof 6 episodes, adapts the first book, The Hedge Knightwith a story set in the same universe what Game of Thrones y House of the Dragon, 100 years before the events of GoT.
To be precise, the timeline of The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms with develops 72 years after House of the Dragony 100 years before Game of Thrones. When we enter the world of A Knight of the Seven Kingdomsthe Targaryens will no longer have dragons as it will have been about 50 years since the death of the last creature.
Martin co-created the series with Ira Parkerwho is also the showrunner. Parker was part of the writing team for the first season of House of the Dragon.
The first season concluded filming in September 2024. The series is scheduled to have lasting three seasons.
The news was announced by CEO Casey Bloys, during a press conference in New York.
Francesca Orsi, executive VP of programming at HBO and head of HBO Drama Series and Movies, stated in a press release (via Variety):
“We are delighted to be able to offer new seasons of these two series over the next three years to the legion of fans of the 'Game of Thrones' universe. Together, 'The House of the Dragon' and 'The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' demonstrate the immensity and imaginative richness of George RR Martin's universe. In January, I believe that audiences will delight in the inspiring story of Dunk and Egg's overcoming, which George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, 'The House of the Dragon' will reignite the spark with some of its most epic battles to date.”
SYNOPSIS:
“A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes roamed Westeros… a young, naive but brave knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg… Set in a time when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful enemies and dangerous deeds await these unlikely and incomparable friends.”
The cast is made up Peter Claffey como Dunk/Ser Duncan the Tall, Dexter Sol Ansell like Egg, Find Bennett like Prince Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford like Tanselle, and Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor “Brakspear” Targaryen.

And so you're not caught off guard: when this new prequel is released, you'll instantly notice a big difference from GOT y HOTD: does not have an opening title sequence.
Instead of the animation that takes us to key points of Westeros accompanied by an orchestra, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be presented with a simple title card and medieval typography between the opening action of each episode. From here you are notified: We are facing something different from what was seen in the two previous series.something more in line with the scale of the short novels on which it is based.
“It's not the sprawling Game of Thrones that we know and love; it's close and difficult,” Parker said in statements reported by Deadline. “We continue to flood this field with mud, dirt and shit… the pain, the agony, the irritation, the closeness; as soon as you put on a mask, the way you breathe changes. We're going to feel every grain of it.”
Executive producers are Martin, Parker, Sarah Bradshaw, Owen Harris, Ryan Condal, and Vincent Gerardis.
