Paramount Pictures is very close to the premiere of the period drama Babylon of Damien Chazellea film that is expected to play an important role in the 2022-23 awards season, which will conclude with the Oscars on Sunday, March 12.

Set for a wide theatrical release on December 23, 2022, the film’s marketing campaign kicked off in previous weeks, with promotional image releases, and an official trailer offering glimpses into what appears to be utter visual and narrative insanity. with a trailer showing Chazelle’s vision of 1920s Hollywood, during the transition from silent to talkies.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, the protagonist Margot Robbie (Amsterdam, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Barbie) comments that this type of filming was something he previously experienced on Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, and never thought he could engage in madness on a similar level, or even higher level:

I remember being on the set of [The Wolf Of Wall Street] and thinking, ‘I’ll never be in a crazy movie like this again.’ And then I made Babylon. There is a dizzying amount of debauchery. One of the most disturbing and chaotic scenes I have ever witnessed is in this movie and it involves a fight with a snake.. I won’t tell you who wins or loses that fight, but trust me, it’s crazy.”

Chazelle complements by saying:

“Hollywood back then was a place where out of the most depraved animal behavior came these works of art that were so beautiful and alluring. Hollywood of the 1920s was truly a cesspool of vice, arrogance, and excess. We tried to put that on screen. all it. Gird up your loins, people. We’re in for a wild ride.”

Empire Magazine also shares a new official image of Robbie:

With filming done in Los Angeles, including inside the Paramount film studio, Babylon develops its plot, as we mentioned, during the Golden Age of Hollywood, the 20sin the transition from silent cinema to talkies.

Chazelle calls out the period drama“the most difficult shoot I’ve ever done.” The film is also described as “The Great Gatsby en esteroides,” and it is not a description to be taken lightly, if we have learned anything from the first official trailer.

Chazelle writes and directs Babylon.
