20th Century Studios the theatrical release of the adventure thriller is on the horizon Whalefall.
This is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Daniel Krauswhich takes us directly to the stomach of a whale, in this project described by the studio as “a mix between The Martian y 127 Hours”.
Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You, Spontaneous) directs the script he co-wrote with Kraus, with Austin Abrams (Weapons) in a leading role.
This is, by the way, one of two film projects in which we will see Abrams this year; the other is the reboot of Resident Evil by Zach Cregger, which hits the big screen next week, while in October it will be your turn to see it in Whalefall.
Curiously, in both projects, Abrams' characters will face threats of a different nature that will lead to a fierce fight for their survival.
In the case of Whalefalltitled The fall of the whale In our region, the following premise is presented: “The chances of being swallowed alive by a whale are low, but never zero”.
The plot centers on a diver (Abrams) who searches for the remains of his deceased father. During his search, the diver is engulfed by a 24-meter, 60-ton sperm whale, and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. Having lost all hope, the young man is surprised to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unexpected place.
In addition to Adams, the main cast includes Josh Brolin (Weapons, Dune), Elisabeth Shue (The Boys, Greyhound), John Ortiz (Nobody 2, Bad Monkey), Jane Levy (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe), Emily Rudd (One Piece, saga Fear Street), y Mark Meloro Jr.

The project came to fruition after director Duffield approached Kraus after learning about the premise of the author's novel, to acquire the rights to a film adaptation. The approach was through DM on Twitter.
Later, the company Imagine Entertainment Ron Howard she joined the project as a producer.
The producers are Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Brian Duffield, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum. Executive producers include Richard Abate, Douglas C. Meffifield, and Will Rowbotham.
