After many twists and turns, now it is a fact: the film adaptation of the beloved NBC sitcom, Communityis officially underway. Peacock won the rights in what is said, it was a highly competitive bid.

Practically since the sitcom concluded its broadcast in the summer of 2015, after 110 episodes on the air, there have been talks about plans to launch a movie. Even fans began to demand a movie leading up to the series’ conclusion, with the move #SixSeasonsAndAMovie launched on social networks in 2014. The phrase is a nod to one of the lines from the first seasons of the series.

the original stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Puddy, Jim Rush, Alison Briey Ken Jeong will reprise their roles in the film. On the other hand, Chevy Chase, Yvette Nicole Brown, Donald Glover they are not among the cast of the film.

McHale tagged Glover among his other co-stars when he posted the official announcement on Twitter this morning, Chase, who is also on Twitter, was not tagged.

Regarding the absence of some of the cast members, Peacock told the media: “These are the only details we are releasing at this time.”

The movie Communitywill be borne by Dan Harmoncreator of the series –and today recognized for being the co-creator of Rick and Morty–, the executive producer Andrew Guest, McHaleand the studies Sony Pictures Television y Universal Televisiona division of Universal Studio Group.

Peacock also acquired the complete series catalog (although not exclusively).

“From the TV series that predicted its own movie comes the least predictable movie in a TV series that referenced many movies and TV shows.”

We are incredibly grateful that 15 years later, we are able to bring fans this promised movie and can’t wait to work with Dan Harmon, Andrew Guest, Joel McHale, Sony and our partners at UTV to continue this epic comedy for Peacock audiences. ”

Erin Underhill, president of Universal Television adds:

“This franchise is the very definition of a community. We are excited to bring the band back together and continue the journey of these beloved characters.”

Upon its premiere on NBC in 2009, as part of Must See TV Thursday – along with The Office, 30 Rock, y Parks and RecreationCommunity It achieved critical and audience recognition, although the ratings did not always favor it.

Community achieved greater success during the pandemic in 2020, something similar to what happened with The Officeanother NBC sitcom that achieved much-deserved recognition from mainstream audiences after its conclusion by expanding its fandom once it became available to view on Netflix (same case with Community).
