In 2008, Paramount Pictures and the producer JJ Abrams They pleasantly surprised us with an unexpected science fiction and horror project released through a mysterious and successful viral marketing campaign. It was about Cloverfielda found-footage that traces the origin of the Universo Cloverfieldwith two other films loosely connected to the original: the excellent thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) from the director Then Trachtenbergand subsequently The Cloverfield Paradox (2018), which did not convince audiences. Both sequels were non-direct continuations of the original film.

And while since September 2022, Paramount and Bad Robot have made it official that they have put a sequel to the saga is underwaythe first direct sequel to the 2008 original, Trachtenberg is open to a continuation of his film, 10 Cloverfield Lane (known as Avenida Cloverfield 10 In our country). Of course, he wants to have the return of the protagonist, Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

During an interview with CinemaBlend on the occasion of the 4K, Blu-ray and DVD release of Preyhis most recent film, the director was questioned about the possibility that the sequel in development is about Michelle (Winstead) and her life after the events of 10 Cloverfield Lane:

“Not precisely. The sequel is to the original Cloverfield. But for our film, I would still be totally open to it. I think Mary would. We talked a bit about ‘what if’ scenarios. And then I felt dragged, all the filmmakers felt dragged into other things. But I would still consider it. There are a lot of things that would be in the genre they would be in, but you never know. The sequel they are making is great.

Would you like to know what happens to Winstead’s character after she escapes the bunker she was in?

While we wait to get more news, we tell you that the sequel that is in development is – as we mentioned – a direct sequel to the original directed by Matt Reeves. The new installment is directed by Babak Anvari, who was announced as director in September 2022, with a script by Joe Barton.

In January of this year, Abrams told THR:

“I can never say what we’re doing because it’s Cloverfield and the rules of Cloverfield are that you don’t talk about Cloverfield. What happens with Cloverfield from the beginning was always very surprising the way they came together, and I hope it continues to be surprising. ”

About the Cloverfield Universe

“In the area formerly known as Central Park, the following tape was found,” is about Cloverfieldthe film that started the saga and whose found footagerenewed the technique that gained notoriety with The Blair Witch Project. The one directed by Matt Reeves from the script by Drew Goddard, and produced by Abrams, revolves around a group of friends in Manhattan, who must navigate the streets of New York to rescue a friend and survive a devastating, strange and mysterious attack at the hands of unknown creatures of monstrous proportions. The cast included Lizzy Caplan, Mike Vogel, Jessica Lucas, Odette Anabelle and TJ Miller.

Eight years later came the second film in the franchise, 10 Cloverfield Lane (you can read Cine3’s review here) by Trachtenberg, and script by Josh Campbell, Matthew Stuecken and Damien Chazelle, produced again by Abrams. This particular installment began as an original idea that was later included and adapted to be included as part of the Cloverfield Universe.

The same technique/strategy was used with the third installment, The Cloverfield Paradox (you can read Cine3’s review here), directed by Julius Onah and written by Doug Jung and Oren Uziel. This installment answered the biggest doubts: why? and the how?: why did the monster appear?, how did it originate?, what caused it?, and with this it opened a large number of possibilities for future narratives within the Cloverfield Universe.
