Deadpool returns to the big screen five years later and after a massive acquisition of Fox by Disney, with the new installment titled Deadpool & Wolverinewhich will mark the arrival of both to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the latest trailer shared this morning, Deadpool Ryan Reynolds asks for Wolverine's help Hugh Jackman, to save his world. Reluctantly, the iconic mutants must join forces.

Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, The Adam Project, Free Guy), the film's director, emphasized during a panel at CinemaCon 2024, that this is not about a Deadpool 3: “It is the third film Deadpoolbut it is not Deadpool 3. It's something different than Deadpool and Wolverine. And he's not trying to copy anything from the previous two films. “They were awesome, but this is a two-player character adventure.”

Previously, Levy revealed that included a tribute to the franchise Star Wars.

Levy directs the script co-written with Rhett Reese y Paul Wernick (Deadpool y Deadpool 2, Zombieland, Zombieland: Double Tap, Ghosted), Zeb Wells (Robot Chicken, SuperMansion), y Reynolds.

In addition to Reynolds and Jackman, the sequel features the returns of Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Leslie Uggams (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), Karan Soni (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), and the return of Jennifer Garner like Elektra, a character she played in Daredevil (2003) and last time in the 2005 solo spinoff. New additions include Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), Emma Corrin (The Crown), y Patrick Stewart (X-Men).

The first installment followed the antihero seeking revenge against Ajax (Ed Skrein), the man who turned him into a mutant and left him disfigured. The second film focused on Deadpool organizing the X-Force team to fight time-traveling soldier Cable (Josh Brolin). Both films broke records with their respective releases in 2016 and 2018, with opening box office receipts of $132.4 million and $186 million, respectively, historic for an R-rated film.

The sequel will be the first installment of the saga to be released by the Walt Disney Company, following the acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019, although this will not alter the Rated R that has characterized the saga, according to statements by Levy and the co-writers.

Levy, Reynolds and Lauren Shuler Donner are producers, with Louis D'Esposito, George Dewey, Wendy Jacobson, Simon Kinberg, Jonathon Komack Martin, Josh McLagen, Mary McLagen, Reese and Wernick serving as executive producers.

Deadpool and Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 25, 2024.
