Last February 2023, the horror comedy was released in theaters Cocaine Bearwhich marked the fourth time that Elizabeth Banks she placed herself behind the lens as a director.

The actress and director tackled the story of a drug dealer whose plane crashes in the Georgia woods with a shipment of cocaine, which is found and eaten by a black bear, who then loses all control over himself.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Banks shared that he had a lot of fun shooting the feature film, so much so that if the opportunity to make a sequel presented itself, he would:

“I loved how subversive and crazy and silly and funny it was. I loved surprising people with the cast. I don’t think anyone expected Margo Martindale, who is 70 years old, to shoot that kid. We had a lot of fun, and if I had the opportunity to wow the audience and delight myself again, I would take it.”.

Banks has directed other titles such as Pitch Perfect 2 and the reboot of Charlie’s Angelsy Cocaine Bear demonstrates that his interest and skill behind the scenes is not limited to one genre:

“I have been very fortunate to work in many genres and things that appeal to me. Cocaine Bear also came to me during the pandemic. We were all locked in, and I loved the fun feeling inside. It was what I wanted to see. And he had this message about humanity’s guilt in the disappearance of nature. It spoke to me on so many levels.”

The film directed by Banks, and scripted by Jimmy Warden for Universal Pictures it is Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug dealer’s plane crash, the missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it. This wacky black comedy finds a strange group of cops, criminals, tourists and teenagers converging in a Georgia forest. where a 500 pound black bear has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone berserk from more beatings and blood.

The cast headlined it Ray Liotta –in one of his last papers–, Keri Russell, Margo Martindale, Alden Ehrenreich, Kristofer Hivju, Matthew Rhys, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Isiah Whitlock Jr., y Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
