We are now less than a month away from the theatrical release of Evil Dead Burna new installment of the horror franchise Evil Deadfrom the director Sébastien Vanicek (Infested).

The most recent news reveals an important turn in events surrounding the titled Evil Dead: Catching Fire in our region. And it has already been announced that the Motion Picture Association (MPA), the body in charge of granting classifications to all Hollywood film productions, as expected, gave the film the Rated R by:

“Intense violence and gore, horror and strong language.”

The surprise is not getting an R, but rather that the original rating would have been a NC-17 ratingthe highest classification in the MPA system, which does not allow children under 17 years of age to enter movie theaters.

In an interview with SFX magazine, Vaniček stated that he had to cut a particular scene to avoid NC-17 and opt for R-rated (via ComicBook):

“There's one scene that's not PG-18. It's a very, very tough scene. And unfortunately, I have to cut it, so you won't see it as raw as it is now, because I need the movie to be R-rated. So we're trying to find a good balance.”

The main difference between the classifications is that while an R classification can admit minors accompanied by an adult, the NC-17 strictly prohibits the entry of minors under 17 years of age, whether or not they are accompanied by an adult.

The filmmaker does not delve into the details of the aforementioned scene, but he does suggest that he is thinking about the release of a Director's Cut, later, which will be much more brutal:

“The director's version will be much more violent than what we will see in the cinema.”

The feature film is co-financed by Sony Pictures y New Line Cinema. Warner Bros. is the distributor in the national market, and Sony in the international market.

It should come as no surprise that studios call it ““The wildest, scariest adventure in the franchise to date.”.

The film, scripted by Vaniček and Florent Bernard (Infested), tells the story of a woman who seeks solace in her husband's family home after his death. As one by one they transform into demons—turning the meeting into a living hell—he discovers that the vows he made in life last even in death.
