The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), revealed to his chosen to receive honorary Oscars and the Thalberg Memorial Prize in the Governors Awards 2026 (via official site).

The Academy will present honorary statuettes to the legendary actress Glenn Closeto the veteran director Ridley Scottand Disney's first black animator, Floyd Norman. For their part, the producers Christine Vachon y Pamela Kofflerlong-time advocates of independent film, will receive the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, following a vote by its Board of Governors.

The Honorary Oscar recognizes ā€œextraordinary distinction in career achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or outstanding service to the Academy.ā€

The Thalberg Award, named after the pioneering MGM executive, is presented to a creative producer whose work consistently reflects a high level of film production.

The awards will be presented at the 17th Annual Governors Awards of the Academy, November 15, 2026in the Ray Dolby Room at Ovation Hollywood.

The recognition feels special, particularly in the case of Close and Scott, who despite a strong career in front of the camera for Close, and behind the camera for Scott, have never won an Oscar.

The actress has been nominated 8 times for best actress, and no winsholding, together with Peter O'Toole, the record as the actor or actress with the most nominations without a win. His career spans more than five decades and more than 100 screen credits. Has been nominated for The World According to Garp, The Big Chill, The Natural, Fatal Attraction, The House of the Spirits, Dangerous Liaisons, Albert Nobbs, The Wifey Hillbilly Elegy.

Other notable projects include, 101 Dalmatians, Mars Attacks!, Air Force One, Jagged Edge, Hamlet, The Stepford Wives, y Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

On the other hand, Scott has three nominations for best director and one for best film as a producer, and has never won a statuette either.even though his 2000 action epic, Gladiatorwon five Oscars, including best picture. Scott does not have a producer credit on this feature film.

Scott is the eighth highest-grossing director of all time, with films totaling $5 billion worldwide. The British filmmaker, whose career spans nearly six decades, earned best director nominations for Thelma & Louise, Gladiator y Black Hawk Downplus a best film nomination as a producer for the survival drama The Martian.

His filmography includes science fiction and action classics such as Alien, Blade Runner y Prometheusalong with great epics and dramas such as Kingdom of Heaven, American Gangster, All the Money in the World, House of Gucci, The Last Duel y Napoleon. His next film will be an adaptation of the apocalyptic science fiction novel The Dog Starsstarring Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin, for 20th Century Studios.
