The original series of HBO, Harry Potter has just made a change to the cast of its second season, adding Kit Harington (Game of Thrones, Industry) to play Gilderoy Lockhart.
Harington will replace Nicholas Houltpreviously announced to take over the role, and who had to withdraw from the project due to scheduling conflicts. The second season made a date change in filming, which prevented Hoult from joining the series (via Variety).
Interestingly, Harington voiced the character Lockhart in the audiobook series of Harry Potterreleased in 2025. The role is key to the plot of the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Lockhart, a famous but arrogant wizard known for his numerous heroic acts, becomes the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts, and it soon becomes clear that he is not qualified for the position. He was played by Kenneth Branagh in the 2002 film, Chamber of Secrets.
Filming of the second season, The chamber of secretswill begin in the fall of this year. The release date has not been announced at this time. The first season, which adapts the first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stonepremieres on December 25 of this year on HBO and HBO Max.
The series reinvents JK Rowling's seven-novel saga into a multi-season drama series, introducing a new Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore, Snape, and all the other beloved characters, as well as a new Hogwarts.
To better reflect the novel being adapted, each season will be titled after the material it corresponds to: the first will be Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for the English-speaking market, and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone for the Spanish-speaking market, the second Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and so on.
The series features Dominic McLaughlin like Harry, Arabella Stanton like Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout Like Ron Weasley.
Furthermore, we will have Nick Frost (trilogy Croissant) as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow (Conclave, The Crown) as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer (Ozark) like the Profesora Minerva McGonagall, Especially Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Black Doves) like the Profesor Severus Snape, Luke Thallon (Patriots) as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse (The Fast Show) as Argus Filch.

Francesca Gardiner (Succession, Killing Eve, His Dark Materials) She is the screenwriter and showrunner of the series. Mark Mylod (Game of Thrones) is the director of several episodes and executive producer.
For the second season he joined Jon Brown as coshowrunner. Brown was one of the writers of the first season.
Other executive producers include Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman. Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television produce.
HBO has plans for the series to run for more than a decade.
