Universal Pictures has given the green light to the development of a fourth installment of the comedy-romance franchise, Meet the Parentsor as we know it in our market, My girlfriend's family.
Meet the Parents 4 is developing right now, at the same time as the protagonists of the original cast, Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo y Blythe Dannerhold the first talks to finalize their return (via Deadline).
John Hamburgcoguionista of the three previous installments, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers y Little Fockerswill write the script for the next film. Hamburg has written other projects starring Stiller such as Zoolanderin addition to having directed it in Along Came Polly.
At the moment there are no plot details to share, nor is there a director associated with the project. Jay Roach directed and produced the first three films.
De Niro and Jane Rosenthal return as producers with their company Tribeca Productions, alongside Jay Roach with Delirious Media. Stiller and John Lesher are other producers, for Red Hour Films.
Meet the Parents focuses on the hilariously awkward and tension-filled dynamic between nurse Greg Focker (Stiller) and his intimidating ex-CIA father-in-law, Jack Byrnes (De Niro), watching how the dynamic between the two evolves and stays the same as Greg becomes He marries Jack's daughter, Pam (Polo), and has children with her. Danner plays Jack's wife, Dina.
Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand appeared in the sequels Meet the Fockers y Little Fockersplaying Greg's parents, Bernie and Roz. Owen Wilson has appeared in all three installments as Pam's ex-boyfriend, Kevin. It is unknown if they will be back for the fourth film.
Upon its theatrical release in 2000, Meet the Parents made a box office smash of over $330 million at the global box office, while the box office returns of the 2004 and 2010 sequels led the franchise to gross over $1.13 billion worldwide.
De Niro's upcoming projects include the political thriller series, Zero Dayscheduled to premiere on February 20, 2025 on Netflix, and the crime drama Alto Knightswith a theatrical release set for March 21, 2025.
Stiller stars in Christmas comedy Nutcrackersavailable right now on Hulu, and on Dear Santa from Paramount+. He will continue as director and executive producer of the acclaimed series Severance from Apple TV+, which is about to premiere the second season.
Polo's most recent projects include the series Good Troublespinoff of The Fostersy The Big LeapWe will soon see her in the tragicomedy Relative Control and the supernatural thriller The Evilry.
