Melissa Barrera y Jenna Ortega met with the cast of Scream during the 17th annual MPTF Evening Before Gala (Motion Picture & Television Fund).
Barrera and Ortega met with the nicknamed “Core Four”, Jasmin Savoy Brown y Mason Goodingthe other two actors who play the new group of survivors of the Ghostface attacks, in the installments Scream 5 (2022) y Scream VI (2023).
There were also other members of the most recent installment at the meeting, such as Liana Liberato y Tony Revolorias well as Jack Quaid of Scream 5and one of the original Ghostface, Skeet Ulrich. You can find the images at the end of this note.
The group of actors attended the gala held annually before the Emmy Awards, where the top talent on the small screen comes together to give back to the community, raise funds and awareness for the MPTF, and help provide financial aid, child care, and much more.
This year, the Emmys are being held this Monday, November 15, 2024, after having postponed the ceremony that would take place last September, as a result of the strikes of the scriptwriters and actors, which have already been resolved, and the industry returns to normal.
Barrera was fired from Scream VII last November, after the actress shared posts and stories on social media about the Israel-Hamas conflict. “As a proud Latina and Mexican, I feel the responsibility of having a platform that allows me the privilege of being heard, and that is why I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues that matter to me and lend my voice to those who are in need. “Every person on this earth, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status, deserves equal human rights, dignity and, of course, freedom.”
“I believe that a group of people are NOT your leaders, and that no governing body should be above criticism. I pray day and night that there will be no more deaths, that there will be no more violence and that there will be peaceful coexistence. I will continue to speak for those who need it most and I will continue to advocate for peace and security, for human rights and freedom. Silence is not an option for me.”
In the same week of Barrera's firing, it was revealed that Ortega, who played Barrera's sister in the two most recent installments of Screamhad chosen not to return to Scream 7. The following month, the director Christopher Landonannounced that he had given up on the dream project that “turned into a nightmare.”
