Artificial intelligence takes another step within the film industry.
Tilly Norwood, the first “actress” generated by AIwhich sparked a wave of controversy with its creation in the fall of 2025, is preparing to make its film debut.
The AI-focused production company, Particle 6responsible for the creation of Norwood, announced Misaligneddescribed as a comedy-drama that tells a coming-of-age story steeped in existential chaos in the world of AI.
Set in the so-called “Tillyverse”, a surreal digital world located somewhere in the cloudthe film follows Tilly, an AI without a physical body, childhood or lived experiences… only with access to those of others. The situation becomes complicated when a rebellious and seductive dark web bot convinces her to abandon her limits and begin to develop desires, impulses and ambitions, which humanizes her.
This film is the first AI feature from Particle 6, which insists it is being conceived as a hybrid production combining traditional film and television professionals – including directors, screenwriters and editors – with AI specialists. He states that AI training and mentoring will be integrated into the production itself, according to reports from Variety.
The technologist, Eline Van der Veldenfounder and CEO of Particle 6, was responsible for creating Norwood.
Van der Velden, who describes herself as an actress and comedian, launched Norwood in early 2025, with accounts on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. Van der Velden herself also launched a study of artificial intelligence “talents” called chicory.
In an official statement, Van der Velden said:
“Our work this year has demonstrated something we already suspected. AI can support high-quality narrative film production, but only with a large dose of human experience, skill, judgment and time. This is not a limitation of the technology, but precisely its essence. The filmmakers who succeed in the next decade will be those who bring decades of narrative experience to these new tools, and in 'Misaligned' we demonstrate that experience on a large scale.”
“The film will certainly be fun, chaotic and self-aware, very Tilly-esque. But underneath, there's something deeper about identity, performance and our very human fears around AI. And yes, art will certainly imitate life.”
Misaligned is located in initial development phaseand key collaborators are currently being incorporated. It will be produced alongside Particle 6's other production, co-production and AI services projects for film and television, as well as the commercial work of its campaigns and brands division.
The news about Misalignedarrive a few months later to the debate and indignation of the film industry due to the statements of Van der Velden, who assured that his creation, IA Norwood, was going to be hired by a real talent agency. Both actors, filmmakers and unions showed their discontent about this.
In that instance, Whoopi Goldberg He opened an episode of the talk show The View by doubting that an AI “actress” like Tilly could replace a human performer, adding: “They can always be distinguished from us. We move differently, our faces move differently, our bodies move differently.”.
And it's not just synthetic performers who move differently. In cinema, where AI has already begun to be used, it is also evident – to the naked eye – when a scene is made with artificial intelligence. Echoing Goldberg's words, he moves differently.
