On June 5, 2026, a very varied batch of releases hits theaters: The lighta drama of guilt and forgiveness with Fernando Franco at the helm; Rebuildinga warm story about personal reconstruction; The deluded 13+13the return in an intimate and generational key of Jonás Trueba; and Every day a smart one is bornthe new comedy by Arantxa Echevarría, closer to satire than to pure comic relief.
The light (Fernando Franco, 2026)
The four previous feature films amply supported the career of the Sevillian director Fernando Franco, who now confirms his solvency. Alberto San Juan plays the priest Manuel who centers the entire story: from the moment he wants to become secularized and they object to him, he embarks on a path of radical repentance and search for forgiveness for events from years ago. And he does it without looking for himself. We will have to remember Concepción Arenal's phrase “Hate crime and pity the criminal” to understand the forgiveness that the priest seeks, and that is not easily achieved either by the institution or by citizens who have become vigilantes, even if they dress as Nazarenes during Holy Week with a costume that looks too similar to those of the Ku-Klux-Klan. The film may have flaws and there are details that are somewhat improbable – if not implausible – but this is due to the desire for an “exemplary story” that the director seeks, a complete story with all its possibilities. In any case, highly recommended (the actors are all excellent). Ten years ago Pablo Larraín filmed the magnificent The club on the same topic: The light can be complementary.
Rebuilding (Max Walker-Silverman, 2025)

There is no one like the Englishman Josh O'Connor to play Dusty, a cowboy from the American Midwest affected by a fire that destroys his ranch to the ground. With other people he is temporarily housed in caravans in the middle of nowhere; and from there he has to go look for his daughter to do her homework next to a closed library that has Wi-Fi. The “reconstruction” of the title refers to housing, but above all to life, when the subject is left stranded, without economic resources or any hope. I found this story very stimulating, which, despite the plot, does not give off any pessimism but rather faith in the family or in neighbors who have become an improbable—and, therefore, more appreciated—human community that protects us for the future.
The deluded 13+13 (Jonas Trueba, 2013/2026)

As in his day The deluded It did not have a commercial exhibition, Jonás Trueba takes up this film, renames it with reference to the years since its release and the year it was made, and retouches it with some added color shots. First-person cinema, very generational and heartfelt, without a story or causal development of a conflict; On the contrary, it is about showing guys with their concerns, doubts, inconsistencies, who come and go through life. You have to enter it to taste it.
Every day a smart one is born (Arantxa Echevarría, 2026)

In the half dozen feature films by this director the dramas (Carmen and Lola, Chinas y The infiltrator) are much more convincing than comedies. The same thing happens on this occasion, with a piece that has the ingredients for a satire like Airbagwith disheveled guys played by excellent actors, an interesting story with its twists, sparkling dialogues… It failed to make me laugh and I think it lacks the right tone; Maybe it would work better if the joke wasn't so obviously intended, I don't know.
