Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsummer) is preparing his next film project, Scapegoathis fifth feature film behind the lens, and his fifth partnership with the independent studio, A24.
According to reports from Deadline, Aster found his protagonist, none other than the Hollywood star, Scarlett Johansson (Jurassic World: Rebirth).
Aster will write, direct and produce Scapegoatof which at the moment there are absolutely no details, as is the filmmaker's style.
For now, everything is being kept secret, but Deadline announces that Johansson was Aster's first choice for his most recent project, and that “After reading the script, Johansson was fully committed to starring in the film, and the producers agreed to begin production later this year to fit her busy schedule.”
Johansson's calendar has filming on the doorstep The Batman Part IIand the reboot of The Exorcist. In the coming weeks he will be presented in Cannes with the film Paper Tiger from director James Gray. In 2025 he starred Jurassic World: Rebirthand made her feature film directorial debut with Eleanor the Great.
For his part, Aster released the contemporary western in 2025 Eddington. Aster made his debut as a feature film director with the acclaimed horror film, Hereditary (2018), followed with the same genre with Midsummer (2019), and then the dark comedy Beau is Afraid (2023).
Aster will produce Scapegoat together with his collaborator Lars Knudsenfor the company of both Square Peg.
