Despite Barbie It’s already packed with stars, there’s one that Margot Robbie – star and producer of the film – wishes she had gotten. It is the very Wonder WomanGal Gadot.
According to Robbie, he wanted to have the “incredibly beautiful” Gadot because she has “the energy of Barbie”. And while we’re not quite sure what Barbie energy is – not to be confused with what Ryan Gosling called her “Kenergy” – we know the thought of seeing Robbie and Gadot together on screen is enough to make our brains melt.
In fact, Robbie not only believes that Gadot has the energy of Barbie, but instead thinks that the 38-year-old Israeli actress is the embodiment of it. During the casting process, Gerwig and Robbie searched for “Barbie energy,” a certain ineffable combination of beauty and exuberance that they concluded she embodies Gal Gadot.
“Gal Gadot is Barbie energy,” Robbie said. “Because Gal Gadot is so unbelievably beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being, because it’s so genuinely sincere and so enthusiastically kind, it’s almost ridiculous. It’s like right before being a fool.” [vía Vogue]
Unfortunately for Robbie, the Barbie production, movie fans and the human race in general, Gadot’s busy schedule prevented him from signing For the movie.
Joining Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as her doting boyfriend Ken, Barbie features a star-studded cast that includes Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emma Mackey, Michael Cera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Dua Lipa, Helen Mirren y Will Ferrellamong others.
Barbie will be released in the United States on Friday, July 21, which is famously the same day Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer hits theaters. But don’t worry, moviegoers, because Matt Damon has given you permission to see both.
