A new version of the classic The Bride of Frankensteinis on the way hand in hand with Maggie Gyllenhaal as director, marking her second project behind the lens.

The most recent news confirms that the film Warner Bros. will have an official title The Bride!and will be released in theaters on October 3, 2025, including screenings in IMAX.

Gyllenhaal is the director, screenwriter and producer of the feature film.

The cast is headed by a luxury cast that includes Penelope Cruz as The Bride Myrna, Christian Bale like Frankenstein, and Peter Sarsgaard like the detective. Also in the cast are Annette Bening (Nyad), y Jessie Buckley (Men, I’m Thinking of Ending Things) without details about his character. Buckley starred in Gyllenhaal's first feature film as a director, The Lost Daughter (2021).

Deadline shares a synopsis:

“A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the help of Dr. Euphronius to create a companion. The two revitalize a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She goes further than either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police, and a wild, radical social movement.”

Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman-Keren produce alongside Gyllenhaal.

The original 1935 film, from director James Whale, “centers on Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) who after recovering from injuries sustained during the mob attack on him and his creation, falls under the control of his former mentor. , Dr. Pretorius (Ernest Thesiger), who insists that the now chastened doctor resume his experiments in creating new life. Meanwhile, the Monster (Boris Karloff) continues to flee from those who wish to destroy him without understanding that his intentions are generally good despite his lack of socialization and self-control.

In recent times, several plans have been considered to launch a remake of Bride of Frankenstein. We remember Universal Pictures' failed Dark Universe, and Bride from A24 and Apple, with Scarlett Johansson, about which there has been no further news. On the other hand, Guillermo del Toro is working on a project about Frankenstein at home on Netflix.

Filming, according to previous reports from Production List, was planned to start on March 4, 2024 in New York City. It is not reported if production is active right now.
