November 5 & 6  at the University of Alberta

Together 2018 — the second annual, internationally recognized Symposium fostering collaboration and innovation around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Canada and beyond — was held November 5 & 6, 2018 in Edmonton, hosted in partnership with the University of Alberta.  Building on the foundation of partnership, innovation, and cross-sector collaboration, Together 2018 called on delegates to explore their role in advancing the SDGs in Canada and around the world. This symposium examined Canada’s progress on achieving the SDGs, acknowledged new leaders that have joined the movement, and identified innovative ways to tackle the 2030 Agenda.

Together 2018 partnered with the internationally recognized How to Change the World professional development programme. Originally developed as part of accredited degrees at University College London (one of the World’s premier universities), this unique SDG-focused professional development programme explored how to mobilise your knowledge and networks to make a tangible impact on the SDGs today.

In 2017 Canada launched the Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP), which seeks to reduce extreme poverty and build a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous world using a feminist lens. The policy recognizes that promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls will create a more prosperous society. Together 2018 had a particular focus on Goal 5: Gender Equality.
